This is re-telling of a scene from the second book in the Eragon series, Eldest. I read this book as a young adult, or perhaps it’s more like I lived this book. The scenes are often etched in my mind and imagination with their deep significance.

I wrote this for a very special friend of mine, to express something and my bliss understood.

Here, I’ve re-imagined and retold what he witnesses, how his teacher Oromis, the dragon rider of the golden dragon (Glaedr), gives Glaedr acceptance, time and patience.

Oromis could sense that there was something wrong with Glaedr, he could feel the anguish, confusion and anxiety in the majestic golden dragon.

He began to approach Glaedr slowly, who noticed, and reacted purely out of primal instincts and revealed his fangs in a low growl.

But Oromis, without fear, kept walking towards him, perfectly aware that the bond of their souls is not enough to calm a dragon’s rage. He kept walking towards Glaedr, his soulmate, the sole friend of his heart, like he was the only being who existed in this entire realm.

A sudden flash of movement, Glaedr’s neck moved like lightning and the very next moment Glaedr snapped his ivory white teeth just a fraction away from Oromis’ face. The scene is chilling and would raise terror in any creature alive or dead. But Oromis kept his calm, his breathing just as regular as if he was meditating with Glaedr.

Bowing to Glaedr, he steps back slowly in acknowledgement and leans on the rock nearby, his aura still regal as a dragonrider must be.

There, you witness the understanding of friends of heart and soulmates. One knew even with a single glance that Oromis was ready to wait, in silence, for as long as it took for his bonded soul to return to his dignity and to his own mind of ancient wisdom.

There you could witness maturity, deep love, respect and the awe inspiring patience of a mountain. He was ready to wait, if need be, till the end of times.
